Holi is also known as the festival of colours. The festival comes with lots of fun and excitement. It is celebrated by playing colours. But make sure this colour celebration doesn’t make your skin awful. Sometimes poor quality and chemical-laden colours used while playing Holi may cause harm to your skin and hairs like dryness, irritation, burning sensation, redness, acne breakout, dry and frizzy hairs and many more….

This does not mean that you cannot play with colours and enjoy this festival. All you need to do is to take care of your skin pre and post Holi to minimise the damage done by colours, sun, and water. Pre holi skin care tips:

  1. Before you actually start playing colour apply moisturizer all over the face, neck and exposed part of the body (people with dry skin can use coconut oil or almond oil). This will reduce if any damage caused by colour and also help to get off colour easily.
  2. Use a gel-based sunscreen and apply 15 minutes before stepping out.
  3. Apply coconut oil all over your hair and scalp before playing Holi.
  4. Add a layer of white petroleum jelly to the lips and nails.
  5. Try to wear full sleeve clothes to avoid exposure to colours.
  6. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes.
  7. Tie your hair short or cover them with a scarf.
  8. Keep drinking juices and water at regular intervals to keep the skin hydrated.

 

Post holi skin care tips:

  1. Use a dry or damp cotton cloth to gently dust and remove colours first from your skin and hairs and then prefer to bath.
  2. Do not scrub the colour from your skin at any cost.
  3. Wash the entire colour from the scalp and skin before using shampoo or soap.
  4. Use a gentle cleanser for bathing.
  5. After bathing, apply a liberal amount of moisturizer all over.
  6. Leave the hair to air dry.
